Kings Road House

The project is in a local conservation area, on the edge of Ballyhackamore, Belfast. The semi-detached house originally constructed in the 1920’s needed modernisation. The project had two defined elements. Improve the existing building fabric and provide a new rear extension that was sympathetic to the original design and entire conservation area.

The proposed extension was developed using the existing outbuilding bricks. The outbuildings were carefully demolished to allow all bricks to be reclaimed for used in the extension. The large circular bay window at the front elevation provided inspiration for the extensions curved form.

The building fabric and levels of insultation were significantly improved along with airtightness and new double glazed timber sliding sash windows.

The result was an energy efficient home that links contextually to the original form and context.
